Chu, chairman of Pacific Master Precision Injection Ltd. in Zhongshan, China. Chu was recognized for what Newtown, Conn.-based SPE said was both his business plan — growing the company from a startup in 2000 to a 1,200 person company today — and his interest in employee training. SPE also said it wanted to bring a more international focus to the award, which it first gave out in 1983. Scott Peters, the chair-elect of the SPE Mold Making and Mold Design division, said he recognizes that choosing a Chinese mold maker might be controversial among some in the North American mold making industry, given the cost pressures from China and the economic hard times the U.S. industry has faced in recent years.

admin

Reducing Energy Usage with Wire EDM

http://www.flyhigh-tech.com/en/industry/6.html

pressure system. The filter pump runs all the time and the main pump runs at the same speed whether it is cutting or sitting idle—so the fluid is constantly circulating to maintain thermal stability. This becomes a significant drain on energy. Today’s machines are more environmentally and friendly—having evolved in many areas to dramatically reduce their energy footprint. Digital anti-electrolysis generators do a better job of shaping the cutting pulse and reducing the ions generated in the water; this reduces the load on the DI resin system—allowing it to last up to three times longer. Some systems use a power regeneration circuit, which stores the over-current to create the next ignition pulse. This eliminates the bank of resistors found on the old DC generator—and the heat they produce—for decreased energy usage. New fluid systems have more pumps that are designed specifically for various functions, and therefore run less often. The main pump is now an inverter-type unit that changes speed to control water volume and pressure and only pushes water to the cutting heads when the machine is running. Separate, smaller pumps now manage the fluid circulation system—running water through the chiller and the machine to maintain thermal stability at a much lower cost. The machine can also operate in a cost save mode that reduces wire consumption and puts the machine to sleep after the job is complete; in this sleep mode, the energy usage is equal to that of a 100-watt light bulb.

admin

China's Plastic Machinery Makers Head Abro

http://www.flyhigh-tech.com/en/industry/4.html

While the market is still booming in China, the country's top plastics machinery makers are looking to expand outside their borders. And they're interested in more than just exports. In countries like Brazil, India and Russia, Chinese manufacturers see opportunity to open new manufacturing operations, grab market share and try their hand at globalizing. The advantages for those who manufacture in China are clear. Customers in developing markets are price conscious and Chinese manufacturers can offer machines at prices that often undercut their international rivals. Markets like India, however, have started to resist the inflow of machines from China, going so tar as to impose anti-dumping tariffs against Chinese-made presses in 2009. As a consequence, the past two years have seen an increasing number of Chinese-led joint ventures acquisitions and manufacturing facilities around the world. India is a big market and growing quickly," said Jason Chan, manager in Cosmos Machinery Ltd.'s marketing department. "We've just started there, but it's a great opportunity." Chan spoke. While Cosmos is still growing more than 15 percent a year with domestic sales taking the lion's share of their business, exports are an increasingly important part of their strategy. "South America South East Asia, India-these are all big markets that it makes sense to enter," Chan said. "The competition in these markets is not as tough as competition in China." Building an international presence can provide a boost in growth and added stability, said Richard Chen, the sales director of Demag Plastics Machinery (Ningbo) Co Ltd. Although the China-based manufacturer is part of the international Demag Plastics Group, building exports has been a priority."Our target is to increase exports

admin
